This is an all-natural homemade hairspray that I've been using for a few years now. Now I don't need a lot of hairspray with my long hair but once in a while, I do have a few crazy strays that need to be under control.
I love the fact that I know what I'm putting on my hair, it doesn't build up like some regular hair sprays either. It smells great and the fantastic part of making your own hairspray, you can make it whatever scent you want.
Customizing the everyday essentials that you make is such a satisfying feeling. You can customize it for normal, dry, or oily hair. The main ingredients or the base don't change. It's all about the essential oils.
Benefits of the Ingredients
Boiled or Distilled Water | You want to use boiled or distilled water. Using any other type of water you are inviting mold and bacteria into the mix. So always use either boiled or distilled water and never straight tap or spring water. |
Epson Salt | One idea behind putting Epsom salt in hair is to add volume. Some hair health authorities say magnesium is an essential mineral for hair and scalp health. Magnesium sulfate contains magnesium and thus could strengthen the scalp and hair. |
Cane Sugar | Cane Sugar is used as a glue agent. |
Rum, Vodka, or Gin | Rum, vodka, or gin is used as a preservative and for the hairspray to dry quickly |
Essential Oils | Lavender is one of the gentlest oils, making it a great option for beginners, and it’s versatile. It has antioxidant protection and it helps as a natural pain killer. Sage Sage Essential Oil is reputed to eliminate toxins, provide relief to minor skin abrasions, diminish the appearance of blemishes, and address stretch marks, sores, and swelling. Its moisturizing and conditioning properties help soothe dryness and irritation. Lemon is best known for its ability to cleanse toxins from the body, and it’s widely used to stimulate lymphatic drainage, rejuvenate energy, purify skin, and fight bacteria and fungi. Rosemary oil is one of the top essential oils for hair thickness and growth. It is used to increase cellular metabolism, which stimulates hair growth and promotes healing. |
