Homemade BBQ Sauce

I believe that to be self-sufficient one must push oneself out of one's comfort zone.  I like to challenge myself by making as many of the ingredients as possible when I cook or bake.  I came up with this recipe because I wanted to get away from store-bought products like ketchup that are over-processed and overcharged for what they are.  I still have a long way to go and long research days ahead.

With this recipe, many of the ingredients are things that I've made and can be found here on this blog or on my youtube channel.  I've made a video that you can follow if you so chose to.  I have also made some labels that you can download to use for your homemade BBQ sauce.  So, let's get to it.

Here is a list of items you will need.  Now there are ingredients that you can substitute if you wish.  I've added links to my videos if you wish to make your own ingredients.

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup Bone Broth - Bone Broth Video
1 cup Brown Sugar - Brown Sugar Video
4  tbsp Tomato Powder
1  tbsp Onion Powder
3  tbsp 14 Spice Mix - 14 Spice Mix Video
1/4 cup Spiced Rum
1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tbsp Worcestershire
1 tsp Soy Sauce

Place your pot on medium heat and add your bone broth and brown sugar.  Stir until the brown sugar is dissolved.  Add tomato powder, onion powder, and your 14 spice mix, one by one, stirring between ingredients.  Once all is combined, add your spice rum, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce to the pot.  Make sure you don't allow the mixture to burn by stirring it once in a while.  Cook the sauce for 10 to 15 mins or until you can coat a spoon with the sauce.

NOTE: You can make substitutions for the tomato powder for tomato paste.  Just be sure to cook it a bit longer so you get the right consistency. Substituting bone broth with regular beef, chicken, or vegetable broth can be done as well but it will change the taste of the BBQ sauce.

When done let the sauce cool slightly and then bottle it and keep in the fridge.  Make sure you label your BBQ sauce with the provided labels.

Enjoy this recipe with your next BBQ or as a dipping sauce for your wings, until next time.

Cheers for now!
