The whoopie
pie is a wonderful birthday alternative
to cake or cupcakes. With its rich
chocolate taste and its vanilla buttercream filling they may be gone before
you know it. Using good quality cocoa for this recipe gives the cakes a
richer chocolate flavour. Though whoopie pies can be served on the same day
they're made, I think the cakes are much better a day after baking. Of course, they may not even last that long.
The whoopie Pie, also known as the black moon, gob, black-and-white, bob or big fat oreo. It's considered an American baked product that may be considered either a cookie, sandwich or cake. It is made of two round pieces of usually chocolate type cake and the middle is filled with some sort of sweet filling.
You have a choice as to whether you would like to watch the video I made to make these whoopie pies or you can keep reading. Either way, let's get started.
Now I'm not big on bringing out a bunch of bowls to sift flour or mix flour with cocoa powder. I'm pretty flat rate with it comes to stuff like that. The reason being is that I don't have a dishwasher so I like to keep cleaning up to a minimum.
At this point, you need to add your vanilla extract, flour, baking powder, baking soda and cocoa powder. The cocoa powder I do sift cause it tends to clump up and I don't want big chocolate chunks in my dough when there shouldn't be.
Now that you have your dough ready, it's time to bake. You want to bake it at 400 degrees for 8 mins. Every oven is different and only you know how your oven works. The degrees and the time are only a guideline. In fact, I only bake it at 375 degrees for 8 mins as I use a countertop convection oven.
